____________________________________________________________________________________ ABSTRACTThe proposal of that study was evaluate to roughness of own acrylic resins for making of eye prosthetics, submitted to two different approaches of enclosure and polishing, before and after 60 days of storage. Abstract To evaluate the feasibility of using a milled polyetheretherketone (PEEK) post and core in endodontically treated teeth with or without a ferrule. Sixty bovine tooth roots were endodontically treated followed by cementation of intraradicular retainers (IR), according to each experimental group: a) non-ferrule glass fiber post (f0FP); b) 2-mm-ferrule glass fiber post (f2FP); c) non-ferrule resized glass fiber post (f0PR); d) 2-mm-ferrule resized glass fiber post (f2PR); e) non-ferrule PEEK post and core (f0PPC); and f) 2-mm-ferrule PEEK post and core (f2PPC). Metal crowns were made and cemented. A periodontal ligament was simulated using polyether. A force was applied to the palatine portion of each sample at 45°, until fracture. Fracture resistance data were submitted to two-way ANOVA and Tukey’s test (α = 0.05). Three-dimensional digital models were developed to calculate the tensions formed in the root using finite element analysis. Models of glass fiber posts and PEEK posts and cores were evaluated with or without a ferrule. The results were analyzed by the Mohr-Coulomb criterion. The type of IR was not influenced by fracture strength (p = 0.243). There were significant statistical differences among the remaining factors. Ferrule groups had greater fracture resistance, and the failure mode of teeth with a ferrule was more catastrophic than the non-ferrule group. A ferrule increases fracture resistance and influences failure mode; the PEEK post and core did not modify the biomechanics of endodontically treated teeth, and resembled the glass fiber post results. The crack initiation point differed between the ferrule and non-ferrule groups

Our goal was to create bio-functional chlorhexidine (CHX)-doped thin films on commercially pure titanium (cpTi) discs using the glow discharge plasma approach. Different plasma deposition times (50, 35 and 20 min) were used to create bio-functional surfaces based on silicon films with CHX that were compared to the control groups [no CHX and bulk cpTi surface (machined)]. Physico-chemical and biological characterizations included: 1. Morphology, roughness, elemental chemical composition, film thickness, contact angle and surface free energy; 2. CHX-release rate; 3. Antibacterial effect on Streptococcus sanguinis biofilms at 24, 48 and 72 h; 4. Cytotoxicity and metabolic activity using fibroblasts cell culture (NIH-F3T3 cells) at 1, 2, 3 and 4 days; 5. Protein expression by NIH-F3T3 cells at 1, 2, 3 and 4 days; and 6. Co-culture assay of fibroblasts cells and S. sanguinis to assess live and dead cells on the confocal laser scanning microscopy, mitochondrial activity (XTT), membrane leakage (LDH release), and metabolic activity (WST-1 assay) at 1, 2 and 3 days of co-incubation. Data analysis showed that silicon films, with or without CHX coated cpTi discs, increased surface wettability and free energy (p 0.05), whereas cell metabolism (MTT assay) was affected by CHX, with the 35 min of plasma deposition time group displaying the lowest values as compared to bulk cpTi (p 0.05). Altogether, the findings of the current study support the conclusion that silicon films added with CHX can be successfully created on titanium discs and have the potential to affect bacterial growth and inflammatory markers without affecting cell viability/proliferation rates

Foi aplicada...Implants overload is the main factor responsible for osseointegration loss since functional loads are distributed directly to the bone. In addition, the difference between mucosa and implant mobility influence stress level, mainly in prosthesis supported by implant and mucosa. In overdenture treatments, the mechanisms of stress transmission and distribution induced by attachments system are not completely understood as literature concerning the influence of several biomechanical factors remains inconclusive. Thus, the aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of different mucosa thickness and resilience on stress distribution of implant-retained overdentures with different attachment systems using a two-dimensional Finite Element Analysis (FEA-2D). Representative models of edentulous mandible were constructed on AutoCAD software; Group A (control), a model of edentulous mandible supporting a complete denture; Group B, a model of edentulous mandible supporting an overdenture retained by two splinted implants connected with bar-clip system; Group C, a model of edentulous mandible supporting an overdenture retained by two unsplinted implants with o’ring system; Group D, a model of edentulous mandible supporting an overdenture retained by two splinted implants connected with bar-clip system associated with two distally o’ring system. In each group, mucosa assumed three characteristics of thickness (1, 3 and 5mm) in the resiliences hard, resilient and soft, respectively, through different mucosa’s Young modulus. Evaluation was performed on Ansys software, with both right and left sides of models fasttened to allow mandibular bending. A vertical load of 100N was applied on lower central incisive teeth, and the principal stress was used as analysis criteria. Overall, group A showed the lowest stress values followed by groups C, D and B both in general stress maps as in the evaluation of... (Complete abstract click electronic access below
